Apple's HomeView Smart Display Lands in India at Rs 39,900
Apple's $299 HomeView smart display is up for pre-order in India at Rs 39,900, but its Siri AI still speaks only English.
Pre-orders for Apple's first smart home display opened this month in six countries, and India made the list before most of Europe did. HomeView, a 7-inch screen built to sit on a kitchen counter or hang on a wall, goes on sale November 13 at Rs 39,900 in India — a market Apple usually treats as an afterthought for brand-new product categories.
What you actually get for Rs 39,900
HomeView is a touchscreen speaker-and-camera combo that controls lights, locks, thermostats, and cameras from compatible smart home brands, and doubles as a FaceTime unit for the kitchen or hallway. It can recognise up to six different household members by face and quietly switch the display to show that person's calendar, reminders, or photos instead of a generic home screen. The tabletop version comes in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space grey; the wall-mounted version only in silver and space grey, with mounting hardware starting at an extra Rs 6,900.
There's no App Store on the device, which is unusual for Apple hardware in 2026 — HomeView leans entirely on built-in functions and whatever it can reach through a paired iPhone. A good chunk of its smarter Siri AI features, the conversational, context-aware version of Siri that Apple built with help from Google's Gemini models, actually need that paired iPhone to work at full capability. Buy HomeView expecting it to be fully independent and you'll be disappointed.
The India catch: it only speaks English
This is where the story gets specifically relevant for Indian buyers rather than just another gadget launch. Siri AI on HomeView supports English in India alongside the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and a handful of other markets — but not Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, or any other Indian language. We covered this same gap back in September when Siri AI first rolled out on iPhones running iOS 27, and five weeks later, nothing has changed for HomeView either.
That matters more on a shared household device than it does on a personal phone. A smart display sitting in a kitchen or living room is meant to be used by whoever's in the room — parents, grandparents, kids, domestic help — not just the one family member comfortable giving voice commands in English. Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub both already support Hindi voice commands in India, which puts HomeView at a real disadvantage on the one feature it's built around.
- Pre-orders opened October 13 in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and India.
- Sales begin November 13, 2026, in all six markets.
- HomeView won't launch in the European Union at all, because Siri AI itself isn't yet available there under EU rules.
- Indian buyers get the same Rs 39,900 price for both tabletop and wall-mounted hardware.
Why Apple is doing this now
Apple has tried and quietly shelved smart-display ambitions before, but this launch lands at a moment when OpenAI, Google, and Amazon are all pushing their own AI assistants into physical hardware around the home. Putting Siri AI on a screen you can glance at, rather than just hear through a speaker, is Apple's way of making sure its voice assistant isn't confined to a phone screen you already own.
A smart display is only as useful as the assistant living inside it — and right now, HomeView's assistant can't hold a conversation in any of India's other 21 scheduled languages.
For Indian developers building on top of Apple's ecosystem, HomeView is also a reminder of how Apple sequences features: hardware ships to India on day one, but language support consistently arrives later, if at all. Whether HomeView becomes a genuine seller here will likely depend less on the price tag, which is competitive against Echo Show models, and more on whether Apple treats Hindi and other Indian languages as a near-term priority instead of a someday feature. Right now, every signal points to someday.
