Poco X8 Power Launches in India With a 10,000mAh Battery

Twenty minutes on a charger and you're set for the day — that's the pitch Poco is making with the X8 Power 5G, which went on sale in India today alongside its sibling, the standard Poco X8. Instead of chasing camera megapixels or the fastest chip in its price band, Poco has built this phone around one number: 10,000mAh.

A battery-first approach in a crowded segment

The X8 Power packs a 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a newer battery chemistry that lets phone makers cram more capacity into a slimmer body than older lithium-ion cells allow. Paired with 100W wired charging, Poco says the phone can go from empty to a full day's use in about 20 minutes on the charger. That's a notable claim in a market where battery anxiety, not raw speed, is usually the thing that makes people abandon a phone.

The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, a mid-range processor built for everyday apps and casual gaming rather than heavy performance, and pairs it with a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display running at 120Hz — AMOLED panels are known for deep blacks and richer contrast compared to the cheaper LCD screens still common at this price point.

Built to survive Indian conditions

Durability is the other pillar of the pitch. The X8 Power carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, which together mean it can handle dust, submersion in water, and even blasts of high-pressure hot water — a spec usually reserved for industrial equipment, not budget phones. For a country where phones regularly go through monsoon downpours, dusty commutes and rough handling, that combination matters more than it might elsewhere.

On camera, it sticks to the basics: a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.5 aperture and OIS (optical image stabilization, which physically compensates for shaky hands to reduce blur), an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP selfie camera.

Why this matters for India's price-sensitive buyers

India remains one of the most competitive markets in the world for phones priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 40,000, with Redmi, Realme, Motorola and iQOO all fighting over the same buyer. Poco's bet here is that Indian consumers, many of whom keep a phone for three-plus years and worry about it lasting through long commutes, irregular charging access at work, or travel to smaller towns with patchier power supply, will pay for battery and durability over marginal camera gains. It's also a quiet nod to a longer-term shift: with e-waste becoming a bigger regulatory concern under India's Environment Ministry rules, phones designed to last longer without a battery replacement are arguably a small dent in that problem too.

Poco is backing that longevity pitch with software: four years of Android OS updates and six years of security patches, plus what it calls a six-year like-new performance guarantee.

A phone that survives a monsoon and doesn't need a charger by lunchtime is a more useful upgrade for most Indian buyers than another 10 megapixels.

On pricing, the X8 Power 5G costs Rs 35,999 for the 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage variant and Rs 38,999 for 8GB plus 256GB, with sales opening on Flipkart from September 11. Launch offers include:

None of this is revolutionary technology — silicon-carbon batteries and IP69K ratings have shown up on other phones before. What's notable is Poco packaging all of it into a sub-Rs 40,000 device and marketing durability and longevity as the headline feature, not an afterthought buried in the spec sheet. If it sells well, expect competitors to follow with their own battery-and-build-first variants rather than the usual camera arms race.
